New Hampshire Online Lottery to Boost iGaming Sales

new hamphire online lotteryNew Hampshire has now become the 6th state in the USA to offer online lottery sales to its residents. It is a strategic move implemented by the legislators to give a boost to the online gambling industry and bring a new source of revenue to the state coffers. However, the gaming pundits are worried about some business models adopted by iLottery.

To gamble online, the players have to create an iLottery account and deposit the amount which can be used for buying tickets either for Powerball or Mega Millions which are instant winning or periodic drawings known as “e-instant games”.

Under the e-instant games, players will get 8 different options just like the scratch tickets available at the stores. People can check the demo version of the game and gain a basic understanding of how the game is played. At the time of playing, players can keep track of the money spent on the game and the remaining funds available in their account.

On the contrary, the iLottery will pose a considerable amount of threat to the retail outlets as people would now no longer head over to such places. Now they can comfortably sit and play lottery games from the ease and convenience of their home. So, the traditional lottery outlets are going to suffer a lot, and the sales are likely to come down.

iLottery Games Might be Addictive

For the quarter ending June 2018, the New Hampshire Lottery has sold a whopping $331.8 million in overall ticket sales $238.3 million coming from the scratch tickets. It clearly shows the effective marketing strategies implemented by N H Lottery where the partnership is also extended to the professional sports team.

The iLottery games are straightforward to play and do not require any prior knowledge. But playing it comes with a big price. People can quickly become addictive, and they can be enticed to play for a long duration of time as long as there is money left in the account. This can easily lead to problem gambling, but the website claims it would provide a link to offer possible support and help to minimise problem gambling.

The State of New Hampshire is looking forward to increasing the revenues by introducing the iLottery product to its people. But the legislators should look into the potential harms it might entangle the vulnerable players. The iLottery website should clearly display a link button to gamblers who are going through the addiction problems which is the case with every lottery page around the country.

Gambling activists in the New Hampshire want the problem gambling button clearly displayed on the website homepage. The button should be placed in such a way that people are able to spot it without fail without clicking anything else on the website. It would be interesting to see if such changes will be made on the iLottery site or not and how far it would keep problem gambling at bay.
