First Two Casinos in Vietnam to Allow Locals for Gambling

VietnamThe gambling market in Vietnam is all set to expand as two of its casinos are going to allow the residents to gamble. This announcement was made after a casino decree was passed in January.

MGS Entertainment Show was recently concluded in Macau where the academic Augustine Ha Ton Vinh said that two gaming resorts in Vietnam might be included to provide entry to the local people without any hassles.

Vinh who holds the post of adviser to the Vietnamese Government on gambling regulations said that both the casinos have the requisite approval to allow locals. The first casino resort is located at Phu Quoc Island in South Vietnam, and the other one is situated at Van Don in North Vietnam.

Vinh further said that two other casino resorts namely Hoi An and Ho Tram are also in the pipeline from getting the government approval to allow locals to gamble. All these four casinos have their licenses approved since the passing of casino decree, and it is likely they would join the list in a couple of months.

The law/casino decree number 03/2017/ND-CP was signed by the Vietnam government back in January that allowed the locals who are economically capable of gambling in the local casinos. It is to be noted that the casino decree was passed on a probationary basis and will be under scrutiny for three years. At the end of 3 years, the government would review the results, and it would determine whether to extend the casino decree validity or not.

As per the casino decree, all Vietnam based citizens who want to play at the local casinos should attain the age of 21 years, and the monthly salary should not be less than VND10 million or US$450. All these measures would come into effect from December 1, 2017. Earlier Vietnam only allowed foreigners to gamble at its casinos because there were concerns on residents gambling.

The gaming regulators have now decided to do a little bit of experimenting by allowing the residents to gamble in Vietnam. The government is speculating that it would boost the gaming industry and would attract international investments in the country. The casino operators have agreed they are going to invest a lot of money and set up operations in the nation for allowing locals to gamble. This would automatically increase the market potential to a great extent.

The gaming regulator in Vietnam has placed in some strict regulations to make sure that problem gambling does not become a significant factor. They would closely monitor the entry of local people who wish to play at the casinos mentioned above.
