Elk Grove, California In Final Stages Of Approving A Tribal Casino

Proposed Casino Wilton RancheriaThe city council of Elk Grove located at Sacremento County in the district of California has tentatively agreed for the development of casino by a local Native American tribe. The casino will be located adjacent to an upcoming mall on Highway 99.

There will be a voting on this agreement by the council later this week. As per the agreed terms and deals, this new casino will be operated by Wilton Rancheria tribe which comprises of 700 members. Over the period of 20 years, this tribe will pay approximately $132 million to the community, thereby mitigating its impact in the region.

The tribe is planning for the development of a 12 storied hotel which will have 300 rooms and a convention centre. Apart from that, there will be bars, restaurants and a very large gambling floor.

The Chairman of Wilton Rancheria, Raymond C. Hitchcock has said that the groundbreaking ceremony to hold the casino will take approximately 5 years. But he has promised that once it is completely developed, there will be a world-class luxury resort in that.

Hitchcock has further said that the new casino will be built and developed by partnering with a Nevada-based casino operator by the name of Boyd Gaming Corp.

The region of Sacremento county has a large number of casinos with a crowded gambling market. Some of the popular casinos in this region include Cache Creek Casino Resort in Yolo County, Jackson Rancheria in Amador County and Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs.

The proposed casino in Elk Grove will be located in the major freeways of the area. This will put the casino in direct competition with Thunder Valley Casino Resort; the most successful casino in the region.

George Forman who is tribal gaming attorney in San Rafael has made the following statement:

It stands to reason that if you put up a big casino next to a freeway and close to Sacramento, that facility is going to draw business. I think you’re going to see tremendous competition.

Doug Elmets who is a communications consultant and representing the Thunder Valley and Jackson Rancheria has said that the new project will draw a lot of attention in the competitive market. The proposal for the new casino is having mixed reactions from the public. People are debating whether the new casino will have any kind of economic benefits for the residents of the city. The local public fears that the new casino will have an adverse effect on the quality of life for the residents.

The tribe will have to negotiate with the Governor of the State and the development of the casino will not be hindered by any kind of voting from the public. The tribe will also have to get the approval of National Indian Gaming Commission and US Department of Interior in order to acquire a land which at the moment is owned by The Howards Hughes Corp.
