Wynn Resorts Bring in Metal Detectors after Shooting in Las Vegas

Wynn ResortsThe worst shooting in the history of United States took place on October 1, 2017, at the Mandalay Bay Resorts. This unfortunate event has compelled several casinos and entertainment venues in Las Vegas to change their existing security measures.

The change in security measures has already been initiated by Wynn Resorts which is one of the leading casinos on the strip. It has decided to bring in metal detector test from the Monday afternoon which means a slightly longer waiting time for the visitors.

The Sunday’s shooting has caused unanimity among the casinos and entertainment centre operators, and they are trying to beef up the security measures.

However, the most significant challenge the gaming and entertainment operators had to address was finding the right balance between adopting security measures to keep the visitors safe and not to mar the feeling of fun amongst the visitors.

Each year around 42 million people visit Las Vegas for playing at the casinos, and it is going to be a herculean task for them to check and vet all the visitors thoroughly. A senior executive at one of the casino resorts in Las Vegas said that other casinos are likely to adopt the same security measures implemented by Wynn Resorts that makes use of metal detectors for guest screening.

Ed Davis who was the former Boston Police Commissioner currently serving as security consultant said that casino, as well as gaming operators in Las Vegas, would have to start searching for alternate options apart from using metal detectors. He means that snipers should be positioned at proper places having multiple exits and segregating crowd setup so that it becomes easy to evacuate people at the time of emergency.

Davis also commented that it is high time that legislators start addressing the gun laws in the country to make sure such kind of thing does not happen in future.

Davis made the following statement:

I would have thought that would have happened after Sandy Hook. This doesn’t happen in other countries and that’s because of how we regulate or don’t regulate guns.

According to Nevada Gaming Commission, they would deploy several undercover agents to visit the gaming properties in the state and keep a close eye on the operations. The casino operators are also expected for carrying out intensive training programs for their staff members for helping them identify suspicious activities and guest who behave in strange manners. All the suspicions should be reported immediately to a central team that will be trained to take the necessary steps to inspect and investigate the suspected threat.
