I know what comes to my mind when I think of the biggest casino companies. James Bond. Glamour. Glitz. Martinis, shaken but not stirred. Me, all decked up in a tux with some real-life Lady Luck cheering me on with some real-life curves, while I roll the dice on the roulette table.

Sounds like quite the dream, doesn't it? But that's the thing with these old-school, brick and mortar grand casino names – the dream is easily made real. If you have ever played at one of the biggest casino locations, then you know that being extra is what it's all about and, let's face it, this is what makes it so much fun. So join me on this virtual tour and step inside a world of luxury, riches and top-notch hospitality as we visit some of the biggest casino companies in the world of gambling.

1. Las Vegas Sands Corp

Las Vegas Sands Corp

Do you fancy a touch of art and science with your favourite casino games? Or are you something of a culture vulture, and you enjoy a theatre show before hitting the blackjack table? Are you into gourmet food?  Or maybe you want it all, plus an amazing selection of casino games and slots?

Singapore's Marina Bay Sands, part of Las Vegas Sands Corp, delivers it all and then some more. The building itself has broken the record for the most expensive standalone casino in the world, coming in at a jaw-dropping $8 billion. So what does this kind of money buy you, apart from museums, theatres and restaurants?

How about a 2,561-room hotel, a 120,000-square-metre convention centre and a 74,000-square-metre shopping mall? Not enough to impress you? Add a 150m infinity pool and a 340-metre long Sky Park that hosts almost 4,000 people. And it's all designed by the celebrated Moshe Safdie architects, so you've got your style fix, too.

If you're a pop culture hound, you'll be thrilled to know that you'd be playing on the set for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which shows a partially destroyed version of the casino. Crazy Rich Asians also featured the building, very fittingly considering this place makes you feel crazy rich.

Sands Corp does own other buildings with their own claims to fame. If you're up for some romance with your jackpot jollies, The Venetian Las Vegas comes with honest-to-goodness canals and gondola rides. You can get your rock'n'roll on later by catching a rock show, visit the plethora of cocktail bars or one of the pools and hotel beaches. It's a bit like catching a plane to Italy, with fewer Italians and more slot machines.

The company behind all this lavish bounty is one of the veterans – it was founded back in 1988, with headquarters in Nevada, the US, and employs more than 50,000 employees. Reasons for taking the bother to visit? It's the holiday of a lifetime, combined with your favourite pastime!

2. MGM Resorts International

MGM Resorts International

When a casino is backed by the world-renowned MGM Resorts International name, you know you're up for something special. How does a trip to Macau, China sound? A gambling holiday at the opulent 154-metre tall, 600-room MGM Macau Resort comes with all the exotic trappings you may wish for – from the art-inspired architecture to the fine arts collection and the world-class spa.

If it's OTT entertainment you're in the mood of, the MGM theatre is Asia's first dynamic theatre, featuring revolutionary technology and multisensory experiences. Even more extravagant is The Spectacle, which secured the casino a spot on the Guinness Book of Records as the largest, free-span gridshell glazed rood (self-supporting).

But the cherry on this casino's cake is The Grande Praca, a hub that brings together the casino entertainment, fine-dining, shopping and more for an integrated resort. And at its heart stands the Aquarium an amazing eight-metre tall, cylindrical aquarium that gives viewers uninterrupted, 360-degree views of the habitat inside.

With all this going on, it is only too easy to forget to set aside time for the casino. But do so – the casino itself is not one of the biggest, but it makes up for this with a very high-end experience worthy of the MGM name. The staff know their stuff, and the selection of slots is pretty sweet. MGM Resorts International has its headquarters in Nevada, the US, and employs more than 70,000 employees.

If Macau is not on your wish list, MGM also has casinos in Las Vegas, Mississippi, Maryland, New Jersey and Detroit, with more to come. MGM is the name behind the legendary Bellagio, in Vegas. Dripping classic glamour and wealthy guests, the casino was one of the stars in Oceans Eleven and Oceans Thirteen, both starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, among a host of other A-list actors. The iconic Bellagio music fountain is one of the biggest attractions in Vegas, offering a spectacular show with a display that spans more than 1,000 feet, shooting up water soaring some 460 feet into the air and a versatile and never-ending music menu.

And, if your tastes are more offbeat than Las Vegas, the MGM National Harbour, in Maryland, is a rather quirky casino sporting a 3,000-seat entertainment venue with an A-list music lineup that has featured the Ben Elton hit musical We Will Rock You, world-class dining options and a tasting market.

3. Caesars Entertainment Corporation

Caesars Entertainment Corporation

When it comes to American gaming companies, they don’t get much bigger or better than this. Caesars Entertainment Corporation owns and runs more than 50 casinos and seven golf courses under several brand names. It's one of the largest gaming companies in the world. It boasts annual revenues worth billions and has earned its reputation with over 80 years of excellence. But, more to the point, the company offers a total of over 55,000 slot machines across the world and is known for showcasing the newest games and using cutting-edge technology that will reel you right in.

An example of the kind of quality you can expect from Caesars is their world-famous Caesars Atlantic City. This iconic venue matches its betting experience with incredible shows and world-renowned restaurants. Let's start with my particular holy grail – the resort includes a Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill. Not enough of an attraction? Well, you're a difficult one, aren't you? But it's fine – Caesars will undoubtedly have something to hit your sweet spot. The resort's comedy shows are unparalleled and they've even had actor John Cleese, of Monty Python fame, performing there.

As the name might suggest, the resort is Roman-themed, so be ready to get your toga on as you explore the 24,720 sq ft casino, which boasts over 3,400 slots and is one of the largest in Atlantic City. Do take a moment away from the slots to experience their world-class spa, worthy of the best Roman Baths heritage, of course.

Other famous casinos in the US include Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, very popular with the ladies not only for casino games but for other sorts of games – the casino regularly hosts the infamous show by the Chippendales hunks. On a more vanilla note, this is the casino that showcases the Penn & Teller magic shows, which regularly draw in hundreds of punters, and feature famous guests.

The Caesars chain tends to be very big on entertainment quality, with all its casinos showcasing a real A-list of performers. At the Horseshoe Hammond, for example you will also find John Cleese, the Grammy-nominated composer Yanni, Kool and the Gang and many others.

4. Crown Resorts

Crown Resorts

We are going to move away from the many States-centric companies to look at a casino colossus which has become a household name in Australia. There, it is now the most significant entertainment group in the country with a market share worth billions.

This is an astonishing achievement for a company that was only founded a little over a decade ago. When you consider how old the companies we’ve already looked at are, that’s an astonishingly fast rate of growth. They own two of Australia's top gambling and entertainment complexes: Crown Perth and Crown Melbourne. Moreover, they have partial ownership with several other holdings, including one in the UK.

You can tell that these guys mean business: Crown Melbourne is also Australia’s largest casino, licensed to operate 2,628 gaming machines and 540 table games, with a licence that extends to 2050. Clearly shortage of gaming is unlikely to be your problem here. And neither is a shortage of entertainment, with The palladium's 1,500-seat ballroom, The Palms' 900-seat cabaret venue, some of Melbourne's finest dining destinations and luxury designer shopping.

This year alone, there have already been over 22 million visits to the casino.

Crown Perth is equally impressive. On the gaming front, the casino can operate up to 2,500 electronic gaming machines and 350 table games and is the only venue in Western Australia to offer electronic gaming machines and table games. Add a mega (1,500-seat) ballrom, a massive 2,300-seat theatre, more fine dining and bar options and it's easy to see how 10 million visitors have already crossed the threshold this year alone.

The company headquarters are located in Melbourne in Australia, and its business are not limited to brick and mortar. If you're not ready to plan a trip Down Under as yet,  Crown Resorts also own stakes in digital gaming, notably Betfair Australasia (100%), DGN Games (85%) and Chill Gaming (50%).

5. SJM Holdings

SJM Holdings

We’ve looked at plenty of casino companies which have opened resorts in Macau. However, SJM Holdings are the original juggernauts of the gambling industry in the area. And we mean that, quite literally. Up until 2002, SJM Holdings were the sole licensee for casinos anywhere in Macau. It wasn’t until 2002 that more licenses were issued.

However, even with the potential competitors, SJM Holdings have retained their crucial role in the casino industry of the region. In fact, they still owned a substantial portion of the casinos there.

It only takes a look at the projected plans of the eagerly-awaited Grand Lisboa, for example, to understand the extent of the vision behind SJM Holdings. Scheduled to open in the second half of 2020, the casino promises to be a stunning 261-metre-tall structure, with over 1,000 slot game machines and nearly as many gaming tables, being projected. The project is estimated to cost around the $5 billion mark.

The existing casinos are no less impressive – like Casino Oceanus, with its pretty bauble-like architecture that lights up with different colours at night, designed by Paul Steelman. Or the Golden Dragon, with over 72,000 square feet of gaming space across three floors, a Mocha Slots Club for those who are serious slot surfers and nearly 100 gaming tables that include several VIP clubs.

Founded in 1962, SGM holdings is owned and operated by Stanley Ho, considered Asia's casino magnate, alongside several family members.

6. Wynn Resorts Ltd

Wynn Resorts

Not only is 2002 a significant date for our next entry, as the year that Macau opened itself up to new casinos is also the year that this Las Vegas Strip-based hotel and casino operator, Wynn Resorts, was founded. What a year for the gaming industry.

The company has been steadily building up the business ever since, with five huge properties and two more in the pipeline. It is a business that is expanding, although the brand is rightfully best-known for the two Las Vegas Casinos, with another planned for 2020. The other casino in development is actually in Everett, Massachusetts, alongside their three properties in Macau.

Perhaps the clearest example of their ambitions were recent talks to take over Crown Resorts. Even though that appears to have been scrapped for the moment, it shows the enormity of the scale of their future plans.

Look no further than their stunning, now iconic Encore luxury resort chain to see the level of quality offered by Wynn Resorts. This has been awarded the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award each year since opening. Considered to be among the finest hotels in the world, its casino stands at an astonishing 80,000 square feet and is joined by a spa, salon, several world-class restaurants, bars and a nightclub.

Incidentally, this chain of hotels and casinos is one of the prettiest I've ever seen, with floral-filled galleries, art, and classic pastels that offer an olde-worlde feel to brick and mortar casino gaming. But the classic interiors also boast a substantial variety of table games and slots, high-limit salons, poolside gaming, a state-of-the-art sportsbook and a poker room.

Likewise, the nightlife at this casino is buzzing with clubs and beach clubs attracting big headliners and a discerning crowd. I mean, the Las Vegas casino has enough pulling power for Drake to perform there, there's nothing else to add really. If this isn't a good enough way to fill your time away from the casino tables, I don't know what is.

Encore Boston may not offer the star appeal that its Las Vegas brother does, but it makes up for it in sheer luxury and extravagance, showcasing glamour on a big scale with 40-foot ceilings, red glass chandeliers and a massive array of classic and modern slot machines for every taste and budget imaginable. The terrace level hosts table games, poker tables, private gambling salons and high-limit gaming rooms, with a spectacular view of the action below.

7. Galaxy Entertainment Group

Galaxy Entertainment

Macau is once again the scene for a huge selection of casinos. Known mainly through its subsidiary name, Galaxy Casino S.A. owns and operates several casinos and hotels in Macau. It was a clear example of a company benefiting from the industry being opened up to new license holders at the turn of the millennium. Although, the company was actually founded approximately 30 years ago back in 1988 by Lui Chee Woo. The company was formerly known as K Wah Construction Materials, and its headquarters are located at Hong Kong.

Its most famous resort is probably the sensational Galaxy Macau. This finally opened in 2011 after a near-decade of construction. Still, that herculean effort clearly paid off, as it’s a stand-out among stand-outs, from an architectural point of view. There are thousands of hotel rooms, entertainment and casino areas across it’s over half a million square metres of space. Alongside this, there's an artificial beach, wave pool and over 50 restaurant outlets. It’s a truly amazing achievement.

The group also owns three City Club casinos, so dubbed for their strategic locations across the most popular spots in Macau. Waldo Casino is spread over four floors of the property, with the most popular gaming options and most of the slots being located on the ground floor, while the high-limit table areas are on higher floors, with dining and entertainment options in between.

The President Casino is bang in the heart of Macau's entertainment centre, surrounded by many other casinos – but still standing out from the horde. Although comparatively on the smaller side, this casino is known for the quality and quantity of its baccarat tables – and it's great bar.

Finally, Rio Casino completes the Galaxy trio, with 150 slot machines, and almost a 100 table games that offer Blackjack, Baccarat, Sic-bo, Face-up Baccarat, Caribbean Stud Poker and Roulette.

How much do the biggest casino companies make?

The billions upon billions these casinos make are undeniable proof that, although online casinos are more popular than ever, there’s still plenty of people who want the real-life experience.

Check out the jaw-dropping revenues of some of the world’s largest and most successful casino companies:

MGM Resorts International – $11.8 Billion

What are the benefits of playing online, instead of in person?

While visiting a real brick-and-mortar casino can be a great experience, there are a number of advantages to playing online instead. Here are just a few of the benefits that virtual casinos boast to their players.

You can play when you want, where you want

LeoVegas casino mobile app

When playing online, all you need is a laptop or phone, an internet connection and a registered player account. You don’t need to meet certain dress codes. There's no need to pay for additional travel costs. You don't even need to leave the comfort of your own home. Plus, with many casino sites now offering mobile apps, you can even enjoy their games while you’re on the go.

Many big casino company sites offer promotions and bonuses

A lot of casino sites welcome new customers and reward loyal players with promotional offers. These may come in the form of cash bonuses, free spins on slot games or even entry into prize draws where you can win fantastic prizes, such as cars or holidays. If you’re thinking of signing up to a new casino site, it’s always worth checking out their bonuses first.

There’s plenty of variety

Royal Vegas Online Casino Games

Whether you want to play poker, bet on blackjack or risk it on the roulette wheel, online casinos have you covered. They offer a huge selection of slot titles alone. Many online operators also feature a sportsbook section for players who enjoy wagering on sports. The sheer variety of games is more than you could fit under any roof. Plus, it only takes a quick click to jump between them.

You can choose your preferred payment method

Many casino establishments only accept cash and card. But online casinos allow you to pick between a wider choice of payment methods. The majority accept a number of different e-wallets, such as Skrill, Neteller and PayPal, with some sites even allowing you to deposit in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. This allows you to truly tailor your gaming experience to best suit your mood.

Conclusion

There is no doubt at all that online gaming is the most convenient way to have some fun on the slots or your preferred casino game! Nowadays, all online casinos offer such a fantastic choice of titles, and most are also available in mobile format, so you really can't beat them in terms of ease and fun.
