Stewart KennyFianna Fail” which is the Irish Republican Party has requested that bookmakers to impose a limit on the amount of money that bettors can lose.

The request came after the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Paddy Power Betfair, Stewart Kenny, has asked the authorities for stepping in and imposing some restrictions on the gambling industry.

The Chief Executive Officer has suggested for imposing limits on online deposit amounts made by the clients. Mr Benny further suggested that customers should be given a chance to settle their differences before such changes are imposed.

The CEO is of the opinion there are some loopholes in the current system and should be addressed sooner so as to prevent the rise of gambling-related problems. Jack Chambers from the Republican Party agrees with Stewart Kenny and believes that such limits would be a crucial part of existing gambling regulations of the country.

Mr Chambers further said that he does not agree with the current mechanisms of protection that can safeguard the gambling problems of individual from spending a lot of money. He further pointed out that mandatory betting limits have been suggested addiction experts and doctors and has helped a lot to mitigate the gambling problems.

New Gambling Legislation to be More Effective

Gambling addiction is a serious problem in Ireland and approximately 200,000 residents are classified to be suffering from it. While it is a huge number but the actual count of gamblers dealing with serious addiction is quite small. The Republican Party criticizes the existing government for the rise in gambling problems and delays in rolling out new gambling regulations.

A new bill is proposed by the party that can help in mitigating the gambling problems. It would include long-delayed Fine Gael Bill. Earlier in 2018, the Republican Party and Mr Chambers have stressed that “2013 Gambling Control Bill” was not successful like it was predicted and it did not serve the purpose of minimizing the gambling addiction.

Charlie Flanagan, the Justice Minister of Ireland, has given permission in February 2018 for modifications in the 2013 Gambling Control Bill and an interdepartmental review is set up for its improvement. Multiple parties in the government are in support for imposing new gambling regulations. They are of the opinion for imposing a new bill instead of modifying the existing bill.
